Rethink
Taking a step back from the clear plastic surface for a while, I started to consider other materials and surfaces I could use to get the same appearance as the original, 'free standing' paint pieces from last semester. I am interested in using thin pieces of wood or plywood to create a shape and then sanding the edges to be rounded and flush with the ground/ a flat surface. Then I could add the pant on top of the canvas -like- surface and it would be slightly lifted off the ground but still be flush with the floor.
The flaw with this idea is that plywood bends easily with moisture or water, meaning the edges of the shape I cut will almost definitely warp and bend when paint is applied and then dries. I have looked into using plexiglass instead of wood but the amount I would need is far out of my price range.
In the meantime I decided to test out Great Stuff as a possible surface. I have a few cans left over from my Body Like A Back Road piece and decided I had nothing to lose in trying to pour on top of it. I like the way this piece turned out but it creates layers and textures I do not want in ALL of my works. It is nice for some pieces and it connects back with the idea others had at residency of me pouring on top of architecture or surfaces I make on my own.
