Final Touches
January 2, 2018
In just a few days I will be returning to Lesley University for my second residency. I am extremely excited to bring the work I have done over the past six months and get critiques on my projects and process.
This past month I have been buckling down on my work and trying to accomplish as much as possible in a short amount of time. The toughest part of my work is that it must be done in steps and cannot always be rushed. I have finally figured out a way to create my paintings and have them peel off the surface they are painted on to be installed or displayed wherever, without needing a background surface.
I have made more paintings recently and have also met with my artist mentor for the last time this semester. Steve and I discussed some next steps in my paintings and also how I could display my sculpture piece. For my sculpture, we came to the conclusion that this work must be displayed on my terms, for my height, from my point of view. Taking this approach will still allow viewers to access the work but also understand that this is about me, my life, and my timeline.
The first piece of the six will be placed on the ground in front of me. The next piece of the timeline sculpture will be placed on the ground just above where the top of the first piece ends. This process continues, based on my height and eye level. As more pieces are added, the distance between the pieces will in turn increase gradually. This allows viewers to walk between and around each piece individually and view it as a whole from all angles.
