Fail?
Two weeks ago I met with my advisor again and we talked about my fluid artwork. One question he asked me was why I am limiting myself to a canvas. At the time a canvas just felt appropriate for these explorations but seeing them displayed on a wall in our meeting made each canvas piece feel more like an individual work of art. So why was I doing them on a canvas when the canvas meant nothing to me or the work itself? Last week I decided to use my same process but pour onto clear plastic. It was my hope that I would be able to let the paint dry on the plastic and then be able to peel it off the plastic and be able to hang or place the dried paint wherever. This was a bit of a fail because the paint dried very thin and I could not get it off the plastic without cracking the paint in many pieces. I also tried adding glue to my paint before pouring so it would act as a binder for the paint but that too was a fail. After discussing the issue with my advisor we decided that my next test will be done as normal, but I will then add layers of clear body paint to build the thickness of the paint before peeling it off the plastic. This is what I will try this coming week.
